"With so many reasons to celebrate play, it is no wonder the American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends pediatricians to write kids a 'prescription for play.' |
I love this public service announcement from The Genius of Play! We are seeing increasing support for and information about the importance of PLAY for children. This is not new; however, research in brain and emotional development and the increasing health issues in children (stress, anxiety, depression) is telling us to go back to the basics. Over the past few decades, children have become over-scheduled, hurried, and presented with high academic expectations way too soon.
At HPUMC Day School, we have made the INTENTIONAL choice to stand firm in our philosophy of Early Childhood Education and what we believe is in the best interest of educating young children; beginning with social-emotional development. When children learn how to successfully function in the community of their classroom, how to care for others, problem solve, communicate, cope with big feelings, and how to thrive; they will be better prepared for school, academics, and life. Young children learn and practice these important life skills through PLAY!
